Finding The Balance – Being an Entrepreneur Vs. Home Life

When I decided I wanted to be an Entrepreneur, I didn’t have a guidebook telling me what my day-to-
day life would be like, I had to figure it out. It’s easy to say that when working for yourself, you have
more time to focus on family, but sometimes that’s not the case if you don’t manage your time
effectively.

I am a mom of 2 princesses, 6 months and 2 years old, and I am an entrepreneur as well. Let me tell you,
it gets tough sometimes but it’s all worth it in the end! My daily schedule is so routine that my kids even
adopted to it like clockwork. In my world, family comes first and there is nothing that comes before
them or between them and me.

First piece of advice: find out what is most important to you. In some people’s worlds, their business is everything and it
comes before anything or anyone. In other people’s worlds, their circumstances are different or they just
don’t understand what is important to them in life and where to spend their time. Take a second and
ask yourself, “What is important to me in my life right now and in the future? What are my priorities?
Where and what should I be spending my time on each day?” For those of you that have, it figured out,
congrats and keep up the great work. For others that are contemplating the questions that were just
listed, I would love to hear your feedback and your plan in the comments.

Another piece of advice would be to make a schedule and use your calendar/organizational system or
anything you use to stay organized; this is very important because you will need to map out your
day/week/year.
Add your family’s entire life in your calendar first (Or add what comes first in your life). Anything from
breakfast/dinner time to extracurricular’s and even date nights. Then add your business ventures to
your calendar. In my case, I center all of my business needs around my family time. Sometimes it isn’t
that easy to do or it may be impossible, but you have to figure out what the best system is for you, your
family, and your biz.

Being an entrepreneur, it is easy to get caught up on your computer, phone calls, and emails. Trust me,
it happens more times that know! Value your time outside of your business ventures. It is a healthy
move to step away from your business and not let it control you. I understand the feeling of thinking
you’re going to miss a lead or not be available for a client but you must step away. During family time,
put your phone away and if you’re out and about, let your phone go to voicemail. You will survive, I promise!

These are just a few pieces of advice to think about regarding balancing Entrepreneurship Vs. Home Life.
It is so easy to get caught up and bury your head in your biz. I hope that after reading this, you’ll take a
step back and evaluate what is important in your life and scale your time accordingly.
